Reconstruction of school buildings in India and Indonesia

On December 26, 2004 a magnitude 9.0 earthquake occurred off the western coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia, throwing out one of the largest tsunami wave sets ever recorded. The earthquake triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing large numbers of people and inundating coastal communities across South and Southeast Asia, including parts of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand. United Nations lists a total of almost 230,000 people lost.
Oerlikon Textile has appealed its employees in Germany and Switzerland for donations and finally doubled the amount. At the same time, Oerlikon Textile has contacted its agents in the affected countries to compile a list with projects for humanitarian aid, in particular supporting educational efforts. The great assistance of Round Table India, Oerlikon Textile India and the Indonesian Synthetic Fiber Makers Association, Secretary General Mr. Kus Prodjolalito, has enabled us to fund three specific school projects.
